Press release for grant received from Louisa County Community Fund

On Wednesday January 19, 2022 the Hunters for the Hungry program was blessed to receive an $8,000 grant from the Community Foundation of the Dan River Region! We extend our deepest thanks and appreciation to the Foundation and its Board for their precious support!

The Community Foundation of the Dan River Region,  www.cfdrr.org, is a Danville based Foundation whose mission is to improve and enrich the lives of people in their community by encouraging the generosity of donors; by receiving, managing and distributing important resources; and by meeting a variety of charitable purposes in the community. The Community Foundation of the Dan River Region serves the City of Danville and Pittsylvania County to South Boston/Halifax County, Virginia, and Caswell County, North Carolina.

Their vision is to recognize the needs and provide resources to improve the quality of life in the communities they serve and to serve the wishes of their donors.

This grant of $8,000.00 will allow us to cover the costs for processing 160 deer donated to us to utilize for a source of high protein red meat. It will allow us to produce approximately 6,400 pounds of venison which will afford us the program the ability to provide 25,600 quarter-pound servings to those in need through God’s Storehouse, the Northern Pittsylvania County Food Pantry and the Church of Outreach Ministries, as well as any other area missions, churches, and food pantries in the Foundation focus area.

The Hunters for the Hungry program is excited to announce that they have been selected to receive a grant in the amount of $25,000.00 from the Altria Companies Employee Community Fund! The ACECF was established by the Altria Family of Companies and provides employees the opportunity to be more actively involved in serving their communities! For more information on this employee driven initiative please visit www.altria.com

These precious dollars are critical and will allow the program to accept approximately 500 deer that will be donated to the program throughout the 2021 / 2022 seasons and beyond. This number of deer would allow the program to process and distribute 20,000 pounds, 10 tons, of high protein lean venison to feeding agencies and distribution programs that participate with the program statewide! This volume of meat will provide approximately 80,000 quarter pound servings to men, women, children, the elderly, the homeless, and veterans struggling with hunger.

THANK YOU EMPLOYEES OF THE ALTRIA FAMILY OF COMPANIES AND ALL THOSE MAKE UP THE ALTRIA COMPANIES EMPLOYEE COMMUNITY FUND! WE ARE SO BLESSED THROUGH YOUR BELIEF IN OUR MISSION AND SUPPORT OF OUR FEEDING EFFORTS!
