August 26, 2009 - Ft. Belvoir Bowhunters Hold Annual Hunters for the Hungry Fun Shoot

The Ft. Belvoir Bowhunters came together again on Saturday August 22, 2009 to hold their annual “ 3 –D FUN SHOOT” fundraiser to benefit the Hunters for the Hungry program.  Although the weather seemed iffy, the heavy rains held off till the end of the event and allowed for a great day overall of great food, and tons of fun and fellowship.

The event raised a total of $3,200 which will allow the program to process and distribute 16,000 four ounce servings of high protein venison to those in need all across Virginia this year.   Since 1996 the Ft. Belvoir Bowhunters group has raised over $26,000 for Hunters for the Hungry program.  This year’s contribution will go a long way to helping HFTH reach their 2009 goal of 370,000 pounds.

The day’s activities included a round on the 3-D course for 55 shooters. As always there were some nerve racking and skill challenging events which included the “poker” card game and the dangling ping pong ball challenge.  These events made for some close shots, frustrated looks, and lots of laughs.  However, none of the additional challenge shooting events were any more popular than the “Pillsbury DoughBoy” challenge.  This event is both challenging and humbling for those who participated.

The big “deal” for the day however, was the “mega” raffle that is held each year.  The group works so hard to acquire donations for this raffle event that contains bows, bow stands, gift certificates for archery equipment purchases, food, and even processing.  At only $1 per chance, some of the participants really increased their odds with some purchasing anywhere from $100 up to $300 worth of chances.  On behalf of the Hunters for the Hungry program and the Ft. Belvoir club members, we all extend our most sincerest and deepest appreciation for each individual and / or business that contributed to this special part of the fundraiser, and to each person who participated through ticket purchases.

And last but not least, “hats off “ to the chef(s) and those who contributed to the food supply that was nothing short of a 5 star restaurant buffet!  With everything from burgers to bratwurst they crew outdid themselves again this year.  The food, desserts, and other refreshments were simply delicious. We thank all those who played a part in this area of the event that always makes it “one of the best”.

The Hunters for the Hungry program extends a heart felt thanks to the Ft. Belvoir Bowhunters, every business and individual who contributed, and for every person who came out to be a part of this very special fundraising event.  We encourage everyone to check out the Ft. Belvoir Club website for the next HFTH shoot and any other events they hold throughout the year.
